If you’re considering adoption for your baby, making an adoption plan can feel overwhelming. After all, with all of your options, you want to be sure you’re making the best decision for you and your baby. While no two adoption plans are exactly alike, there are three general types of adoption plans—open, semi-open and closed. We want to ensure you have a good understanding of what each of your options are, so you can make the decision that is right for you.
Open adoption
In an open adoption, you’ll select your child’s adoptive family. You can talk with them on the phone, via email, and even meet them in person. After you select the adoptive family, you’ll be able to establish an ongoing relationship with the family if you wish.
Semi-open adoption
In a semi-open adoption, you’ll learn basic information about the adoptive family, such as their first names and the area where they live. Personal information, like last names and addresses, are not shared. Once your baby has been placed, the adoptive family may stay in contact with you through letters and photos. All communication would go through an agency like Baker Victory Services Adoption. If you wish to send the adoptive family a letter, photo, etc., you’ll give it to BVS, and we’ll send it on your behalf.
Closed adoption
Closed adoptions provide no identifying information or contact for either you or the adoptive family. If you choose a closed adoption, Baker Victory Services Adoption’s experienced staff will choose a family based on your preferences.
The adoption plan you make for your baby is your decision. But don’t worry; you don’t have to be alone in your decision. Baker Victory Services Adoption has experienced counselors who are here to help you make the best plan for you and your baby.
If you need someone to help you make a plan or just need someone to talk to, don’t hesitate to call or text our confidential counseling hotline at 716-799-3333.
